Hiya to whoever is reading this,
I’ve been doing quite a lot of DIY craft things recently and had to learn most of these the hard and very messy way. To spare you guys from unintentionally spilling paint all over the kitchen (whoops…) I thought I would share what I’ve learnt. (Also sorry if this post is not as good as the others; my family is arguing and I’m trying to distract myself.)
1) Tissues/Wipes
Whether you’re using glue, paint or liquids, tissues/cloth/wipes are literally vital. Even if you don’t think you’ll need them, keep them handy as I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve accidentally spilt my drink on something I’ve worked on for days!
2) Plan
Having a plan, no matter how basic your project is, it’s a pretty good idea. Even if it’s on your phone, in your head or on paper it gives you something to stick to and limit mistakes.
3) Materials
Before you start your project, make a list of all the materials or equipment you’ll need. It also means that you will know if you’re missing anything key and if you need to buy/borrow it.
4) Recycle
Using old bottles or clothes from your closet, friends and family can dramatically cut the cost of your project. It also helps to waste less and it doesn’t matter if you mess it up. Using your mum’s old tights to stuff a cushion or something like that works so much better than cotton wool and is so much cheaper than buying professional stuffing.
5) Where to dip the brush
This may sound weird, but make sure you keep anything you’re drinking away from the water where you dip your paint brush. Because for the record, paint dipped tea tastes gross!
Hope this helped anyone who tends to do DIY’s and if you can think of any others then feel free to comment them!

Another good thing to know is that alcohol does a good job removing paint from things. 😉

Yeah. Dad might be slightly annoyed if I use his finest whiskey on the tablecloth though!

Haha true! But I actually meant like the kind you get at a pharmacy such as rubbing alcohol.
